Paradigm Shift - Reinier de Graaf - PICNIC '10

In less than ten years the world’s largest cities will be exclusively located outside of the West. The metropolis, zenith of Western civilization, will be a property of the third world. What will be the consequences of this paradigm shift? What theoretical framework could guide the turbulent growth of cities in emerging regions and what will be the repercussions for the West as a former front runner?

Reinier de Graaf joined the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA, founded by Rem Koolhaas) in 1996. As Partner of OMA he is responsible for a number of building projects in Europe, Russia and the Middle East.
